Staff at Nature's Educators get ready for a virtual education program

Outstanding EE Program: Covid-19 Response

Nature's Educators has been giving environmental programs across Colorado and surrounding states since 2008. They reach thousands of individuals each year in all sorts of settings, with all sorts of backgrounds, and all sorts of interests. Nature's Educators provides programs for preschool all the way up through senior citizen and makes sure programs are educational and entertaining at the same time in hopes to spark and maintain an interest in wildlife and conservation.

During 2020, most in-person programs had to be cancelled, so Nature's Educators rapidly switched their programming to pre-recorded and live-virtual. Not only did they pre-record multiple programs, they also added closed captioning and did programs in both English and Spanish. The live virtual programs were done for all ages, various facilities, and could be in English or in Spanish. Switching to virtual was difficult, especially because the in-person connection to a specific animal ambassador was now lost. The Nature's Educators staff and volunteers came up with ways to still engage the public by having a variety of programming and the ability to still do question and answer sessions virtually! Some hosts even got the chance to see and learn how the education ambassadors are trained, how some participated in enrichment, and tours of the facilities. Others learned how to identify raptors native to Colorado, while others learned about raptors from all over the world and even had the chance to see some take flight on the screen!
