Nature Clubs

Butterfly Pavilion and City of Westminster

2023 Innovative EE Program Award Recipient

The Nature Clubs are organized and hosted by Butterfly Pavilion. This is an out-of-school time club focused on the introducing and engaging students from Kindergarten-8th grade to the natural world. Since its inception in the fall of 2018 school year, Nature Club has served of over 300 students within Westminster Public Schools. In the 2022/2023 school year, Nature Clubs were held at Tennyson Knolls Preparatory School as well as Colorado STEM Academy and will continue in these schools as well as expand to two more schools for the 2023/2024 school year.

Nature Club is one of the many programs funded within the Westy POWER/PODER Coalition, which was created when the City of Westminster received a Great Outdoors Colorado Generation Wild Grant. Generation Wild was created to “invest in diverse, local coalitions offering culturally relevant programs that provide youth and families with quality outdoor experiences as well as leadership and career opportunities”. The Nature Clubs managed by Butterfly Pavilion offer just that!

Through extensive relationship building, the staff have built trusting relationships between themselves and the school allowing Nature Clubs to truly be a part of the school and community. Butterfly Pavilion’s passion for Nature Clubs has created a safe space full of opportunities for students. Nature Clubs success has allowed community ties to grow deeper and a larger sense of trust to be created, a truly invaluable outcome of their dedication to environmental literacy among the community!
