Cheyenne Mountain Junior High
2021 Outstanding Retiring Environmental Educator Recognition Recipient
David Eick is currently completing 30 years in public education in grades 3-8, most recently as a Jr. High Science Teacher, after over 20 years in 5th & 6th grade self contained classrooms. Beginning his career with three years of classroom teaching in Southern California, David led an environmental science club and sponsored student council for his school. He spent most of the next 20 years leading or assisting with the school district’s 6th grade outdoor education camps for students, leading field trips and as a camp director for summer science day camps.
In the past 25 years, he founded, developed, and became sole Club Advisor for the Cheyenne Creek Conservation Club, a student citizen science group. As of 2020 the nearly 500 students who’ve been in the club have analyzed and submitted over 300 samples and required data for Colorado Parks and Wildlife and River Watch. Some of those students have gone on into careers in environmental science, medical careers, and other science pursuits.
