Bilingual-Spanish Urban Environmental Educator (9-months)
This position offers a wide range of environmental education experiences, including working on a combination of virtual & in-person programming, as well as program preparation & planning. From June-August, work as a summer camp teacher, leading daily activities like crafts & games about the environment. In addition, you’ll occasionally work with middle & high-schoolers. All programs take place outdoors in Denver parks You will communicate as needed for programs for monolingual Spanish-speakers. Work Commitment March 1 – May 26: 25 hours/week June 1 – August 20: 36 hours/week from May 26-Aug. 16 Monday-Friday, 7:30am-3:00pm + Tuesdays 5:45-7:30pm staff meetings August 30 – November 23: 25 hours/week Occasional evenings and weekends are required. These will be established far in advance. Skill Requirements Ability to speak/teach in Spanish fluently, and translate written documents into Spanish Experience or interest in, and respect for, working with elementary school students Ability to independently manage groups of up to 15 elementary students in an outdoor setting Cultural competency working with communities outdoor education organizations have failed to previously engage Ability to maintain a fun and safe learning environment at all times, as well as being creative, adaptable, & flexible while managing children in a variety of situations Energy and enthusiasm when working with students Interest in working outdoors in hot and cold weather Willingness to collaborate with other SPREE educators in evaluating programs and developing activities Willingness to give and receive feedback Proficient using Google Drive Ability to manage a schedule and meet deadlines Four-year college degree, or a combination of at least 2 years of college and 200+ hours working with children in a classroom or educational program desired but not required Wish List Skills Background in education or environmental science CPR/first aid certification Certified Environmental Educator Bicultural Experience working with middle and high school students Ability to work on, and with respect for, diverse teams or with a diverse range of people Job Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk up to 2 miles, sit, talk and/or hear, and all programs involve getting into the river. The employee is frequently required to use hands to operate objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
