Project Learning Tree

Project Learning Tree (PLT) is an award-winning international environmental education program of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. PLT uses the forest as a window on the world to increase students’ understanding of our environment; stimulate students’ critical and creative thinking; develop students’ ability to make informed decisions on environmental issues; and instill in students the commitment to take responsible action on behalf of the environment.

CAEE is proud to coordinate Colorado PLT in partnership with the Colorado State Forest Service.

Environmental Experiences for Early Childhood

Developed with preschool educators and early childhood specialists, Environmental Experiences for Early Childhood includes over 130 experiences that engage children in outdoor play and exploration and is specifically designed for educators who work with children ages three to six.

 Greenschools! Investigations

Engage students in STEM as they investigate their school site, energy use, water, waste and recycling practices. Best used with grades 5 and higher, the investigations empower students to make their schools green and healthy. Register to access each investigation online, or purchase a print copy of the complete set. Attend an online GreenSchools training for tips to start a program at your school, obtain equipment, collect data, etc.

If you are interested in attending or hosting an Early Childhood PLT workshop or engaging with GreenSchools! Investigations, please contact us.  There is a growing network of facilitators across the state that host workshops.

Project Learning Tree also includes the following resources:

For elementary educators, there is a PreK-8 guide.

For secondary educators, six secondary modules are available: Focus on Risk; Focus on Forests; Municipal Solid Waste; and The Changing Forest: Forest Ecology; Forests of the World; and Places We Live.

For more information on the PreK-8 Guide or the secondary modules contact the Colorado State Forest Service at coloradoplt.org
