Committee Information

We strive to engage and foster leadership to enable individuals to make their optimal contribution to advancing environmental education. To ensure that more voices have the opportunity to be heard, welcomed and included in decision-making, CAEE has a stipend pool available to reduce barriers for those who would not otherwise be able to participate.  Committee members can request up to $500/year to support their participation.

Awards Selection Reviewers

Help CAEE recognize outstanding environmental education in Colorado by joining the Awards Selection Reviewers!  Each year in the fall, the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education (CAEE) hosts the Awards for Excellence in Environmental Education Awards and Fundraiser, a recognition event that honors demonstrated leadership among individuals and environmental education programs that are unique, effective and collaborative. It is also a special opportunity to build support for environmental education through donations. Click here for more information on the awards program.​

CAEE is seeking Awards Selection Reviewers to be part of recognizing outstanding environmental education. Reviewer participation involves individually reading and scoring received nominations (electronically) and then attending the awards selection meeting (typically held in person in June). Additional meetings/phone calls may be scheduled if needed.

The tentative timeline/schedule for the awards program and committee (dates are subject to change)​. 

• Early February: Committee Kick-Off Meeting
• Early April : Due date for award nominations
• April-May: Reviewers read and score nominations online. Scores submitted by mid-May to CAEE.
• May-June: Awards Selection meeting
• September: Awards Celebration Event, often in conjunction with the CAEE Annual Advancing Environmental Education Conference
• November: Reviewer Meeting Event Debrief & Planning for next year

Conference Session Selection & Planning Team

Join CAEE in bringing interesting and relevant environmental educational programs, ideas, and trends to fellow educators across the state through the largest environmental education professional development opportunity in Colorado at the Advancing Environmental Education Conference.  Click here for more information on the conference.

The Conference Event has two levels of volunteer participation.  This is a great way to learn about EE programs and practices, event planning, and meeting new people!

• Option 1: Session Selection Team assists with marketing, reviewing and selecting session proposals.
• Option 2: Conference Planning Team: In addition to helping with session selection, providing input on conference content and assisting with logistics, building relationships (sponsors, audiences, etc.) and marketing.  Assistance on specific tasks will be requested prior to the conference and the planning team will volunteer during the event.  The planning team may meet in person or by phone between fall and spring. Active planning team participants contributing a certain amount of hours are eligible for discounts on conference registration fees (this requires assisting before and during the conference).

• October - August: Monthly Planning Meetings
• Early September: In-person Supply Prep Meeting
• September: Conference & Volunteer Roles

Careers in Natural Resources Initiative

Identify emerging issues and trends in the natural resource sector in order to develop resources to help youth make the leap from participation in an outdoor experience/program to a sustainable career in the natural resources field.  Join the network list to stay up to date on initiative efforts, provide feedback and invitations to an annual summit.  For more information email Lisa Eadens, Career Development Coordinator at [email protected]

Colorado Regional Environmental Education Leadership Councils

Across Colorado, four Regional Councils (Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest) are bringing educators and community leaders together to advance environmental and outdoor learning.  Their work is guided by Colorado's Environmental Education Plan, first adopted by the State Board of Education in 2012!

When you connect with your Regional Council, you join a network of peers who share your passion for helping learners understand and care for the natural world. Together, you’ll exchange ideas, learn from each other’s experiences, and build strategies that make environmental learning more accessible and meaningful across your region.

Communications and Outreach Network

The focus of this network is on building support for environmental education on a broad scale.  CAEE sends out updates to the network to communicate environmental education advocacy opportunities, support calls for action to support legislation, and take advantage of other opportunities to make environmental education a societal priority.  The group suggests publicity and news media materials for organizational visibility and issues management. CAEE Facilitators

CAEE Facilitators are educators who have been certified by CAEE to host trainings in one of our three curriculum programs - Early Childhood Project Learning Tree, Guidelines for Excellence in Environmental Education, and Careers in Natural Resources.  Some facilitators volunteer their time to host workshops, while others are able to host workshops as part of their day job.
